چکیده

In this letter, we address geometry coding of 3-D mesh models. Using a joint prediction, the encoder predicts vertex positions in the layer traversal order. After we apply the joint prediction algorithm to eliminate redundancy among vertex positions using both position and angle values of neighboring triangles, we encode those prediction errors using a uniform quantizer and an entropy coder. The proposed scheme demonstrates improved coding efficiency for various VRML test data. key words: geometry compression, 3-D mesh, VRML, joint prediction, vertex data

Optimized Compression of Triangle Mesh Geometry Using Prediction Trees

Almost all triangle mesh compression algorithms to date are driven by the mesh connectivity code. The geometry code usually employs a straightforward prediction method applied to the vertex sequence as dictated by the connectivity code. This generates a suboptimal geometry code, which results in significant loss in code efficiency, since the geometry dominates the mesh information content. This...

Compression progressive et tatouage conjoint de maillages surfaciques avec attributs de couleur. (Progressive compression and joint compression and watermarking of surface mesh with color attributes)

The use of 3D models, represented as a mesh, is growing in many applications. For efficient transmission and adaptation of these models to the heterogeneity of client devices, progressive compression techniques are generally used. To protect the copyright during the transmission, watermarking techniques are also used. In this thesis, we first propose two progressive compression methods for mesh...

Error-resilient coding of 3-D graphic models via adaptive mesh segmentation

Current coding techniques for 3-D graphic models mainly focus on coding efficiency, which makes them extremely sensitive to channel errors due to the irregular mesh structure. In this paper, we introduce a new approach for error-resilient coding of arbitrary 3-D graphic models by extending the error-free constructive traversal compression scheme proposed by Li and Kuo. A 3-D mesh of an arbitrar...

Progressive mesh compression using cosine index predictor and 2-stage geometry predictor

In this paper, we propose a progressive compression algorithm for three-dimensional (3-D) mesh data, which can efficiently encode the connectivity and geometry information. Using cosine index predictor and vertex confinement rule, the proposed scheme encodes the connectivity information compactly. For the geometry information coding, a 2-stage geometry predictor is proposed to reduce the predic...

Texture Coordinate Compression for 3-D Mesh Models Using Texture Image Rearrangement

Previous works related to texture coordinate coding of the three-dimensional(3-D) mesh models employed the same predictor as the geometry coder. However, discontinuities in the texture coordinates cause unreasonable prediction. Especially, discontinuities become more serious for the 3-D mesh model with a non-atlas texture image. In this paper, we propose a new coding scheme to remove discontinu...
